This is an introductory course for beginners who want to be able to identify wild plants, especially those that grow her in the north of England.
We will start by learning to recognise the parts of the plant and getting to grips with the terminology used to describe them and how they are arranged. Flower characters are important but we will also consider the shoots, leaves and even the roots, as these are all helpful in coming to an accurate identification. Throughout the course we will put theory into practice by taking a close look at some of our common species, and we will also learn about flowering plant families and how they fit into them.
Class members are encouraged to ask questions. It will help to have specimens to look at during the class (you will be told what to collect in advance), and a hand lens or magnifier, but neither are essential.
N.B. You must be an NHSN member to attend this course. You will be asked to provide your NHSN membership number when registering. Not a member? Learn more about NHSN membership.
