About this Event

This trip will explore the former lead/fluorite mining area around Rookhope in Weardale. A walk past spoil heaps leads to the remains of the chimney at the top of the flue from the former Lintzgarth smelter. Down in the valley are the buildings associated with Groverake mine, the last industrial mining site in the region (closed in the 1990s). Further down the valley, the remains of the bridge that carried the flue from the smelter across the road will be visited.

Accessibility

This walk will involve rough ground and difficult terrain in places. No toilet facilities are present in the immediate area.
