Suitable for those with a basic knowledge of geology. The first indoor session will cover the geology of the North Pennine Area, how and why the mineralization occurred, and which minerals were involved. The following indoor sessions will cover a specific area of the orefield looking at when mining took place, which companies were involved, techniques and output. 3 areas will be considered; in Weardale (Westgate), Alston Moor (Nenthead) and Upper Teesdale (Cow Green).
Full day field trips to each of these places will follow the week after the relevant indoor session. Excursions will be generally along well used paths but with occasional short forays over rough ground to view outcrops etc.
