About the talk
In Northumberland, the year of covid also coincided with the creation of a new ranger led service on the Northumberland coast.
Space for Shorebirds was set up with the aim of protecting the shorebirds and dune grasslands of the Northumberland coast, primarily through education and engagement.
Richard explains why the creation of Spare for Shorebirds was necessary and how the rangers are going about protecting our shorebirds and dune grasslands, including recruiting Dog Rangers, telling shorebird stories and undertaking disturbance monitoring.
What is clear is that the waders and dune grasslands can only be protected and Space for Shorebirds can only achieve its aims by working with the residents of Northumberland.
