The Broken-belted bumblebee, Bombus soroeensis, is an unusual find. A small black, yellow and white or peach banded bumblebee, its association with remote habitats mean it is under-recorded across the North East.
Join Louise Hislop and Gordon Port as you set out in search of one of the North East's most elusive bumblebees, looking for males of this species near Allenheads.
Meet at the layby (NY 850 464), just to the west of the bridge over the River East Allen, north of Allenheads, where the B6295 turns off towards Nenthead. Wellington boots are recommended.
*In the event of poor weather, such as heavy rain, this visit may be cancelled, if in doubt please ‘phone 07941 710162 to confirm.
