Description

Join us at Gosforth Nature Reserve for a session learning about the amphibians we get in the North East, and how we can record and help them

About this event

Join us at Gosforth Nature Reserve for Warty & Wonderful: Getting Started with Amphibian Recording, a friendly introduction to spotting, recording and helping frogs, toads and newts in your local area.

We’ll begin with a short, informal talk looking at:

  • the amphibians found in the North East
  • how to tell them apart (including spawn)
  • why recording matters, especially at the start of the breeding season

We’ll also explore ways you can actively help local amphibians, including getting involved with projects such as Froglife’s Toads on Roads and the Freshwater Habitats Trust SpawnWatch scheme.

After the talk, we’ll head into the nature reserve to look for signs of amphibian activity, learning what to look for and how to record sightings.

This event is aimed at all skill levels, whether you’re completely new to amphibians or just want a refresher and a nudge to start recording.

Please wear warm layers and sturdy footwear. Please bring binoculars if you have them, although some will be available to borrow.

Refreshments available, please email Ellie at UrbanNaturalist@newcastle.ac.uk for any questions or dietary requirements.
