Volunteer with us
Could you help inspire wonder in the natural world? By offering just a few hours of your time as a volunteer, you could make a difference for nature across the North East
Natural History Society of Northumbria volunteers work to protect, study and celebrate nature across the North East. Together, they carry out vital work at Gosforth Nature Reserve, inspire school groups, lead events, give talks and deliver publications to connect others with the natural world.
Our volunteers matter
Volunteers are the beating heart of NHSN.
We listen to your feedback and shape opportunities based on your interests, providing you with the opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.
To say thank you, each year, we’ll invite you to a range of exclusive events to celebrate your achievements for North East nature.
All NHSN volunteers are fully supported with training and and equipment where needed.
Current Opportunities
Whatever your background or interest, however much time you can give, you can make a difference for North East nature.
Our dedicated volunteers make all the difference
By giving anything from a few hours, to several days a week, NHSN volunteers make a difference for nature in North East. And you can too.
It takes over 200 volunteers each year to carry out NHSN’s work across the North East. Could you be one of them?
How you can help
Everyone can volunteer with NHSN. Whatever your background, interests, or skills, if you are willing to help, we would love to hear from you.
By volunteering, you’ll join a friendly community of enthusiasts connected by a shared passion for natural history.
You can be part of a passionate group that protects wildlife at Gosforth Nature Reserve, encourages others to get involved with natural history and engages young people with the world around them.
Think volunteering is for you? We would love to hear from you.
