About this Course

Join us for a relaxing three-week introduction to slow stitching set in the peaceful surroundings of Gosforth Nature Reserve. Each session begins with a gentle, guided walk around the reserve, offering time to notice textures, colours, and patterns in nature, perfect inspiration for your stitching project.

After the walk, you'll receive step-by-step instruction in slow stitching techniques. Over the three weeks, you’ll learn how to work with layered fabrics, simple hand stitches, and creative mending approaches. By the end of the course, you will have made your own unique slow-stitched square to take home.

Slow stitching celebrates reuse, creativity, and mindful making. You’re warmly encouraged to bring along any salvaged scraps of fabric, threads, wool, or other materials you’d like to incorporate into your piece. However, all essential supplies and a starter pack will be provided, along with plenty of extra materials ready to be used.

This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with stitching experience looking to explore a slower, more intuitive way of working.

Accessibility

The Field Studies room is completely accessible, although some parts of the guided walk may not be suitable for wheelchair users.
