The North East Naturalist is published twice a year: one digital volume in summer and one printed volume each winter.

Copies can be purchased online, and all published papers can also be accessed in our library at the Great North Museum: Hancock. In addition, historic editions of the journal have been digitised and are available here.

NHSN members who add a £6 subscription supplement receive printed copies by post. Members can also download or read the latest issues by logging into the members’ area. A free sample copy is available to download below.

An investigation over 28 years was made of the breeding biology and behaviour of Black-legged Kittiwakes at a colony at North Shields, Tyne and Wear.

This paper by ornithologist, John Coulson, describes the behaviour and breeding success of individuals breeding for the first time compared with more experienced older birds.
