About this course
Set out in search of Silverlink's butterflies and day-flying moths with invertebrate ecologist, Ryan Clark.
While the vast majority of moths are night owls, there are a variety of day-flying moths that can be spotted while out and about recording butterflies too.
Ideal for beginners, you will learn how to recognise common butterflies and day-flying moths, the field techniques involved, and how you can monitor these important insects as part of Gosforth's Wild Web.Along the way, we'll also keep a look out for other insects and help build a species list.
What to Bring
Please dress for the unpredictable British weather, and wear whatever footwear you feel comfortable in. Feel free to bring a notepad and pen if you want to take notes along the way.
Level/accessibility
The route will take us over woodland dirt paths, with slight inclines. The path can be quite narrow and possibly muddy in places. Toilet facilities are not available.
About the tutor
Ryan is a freelance invertebrate ecologist based in northern England, passionate about pollinators and recording wildlife.
