Description

Join us at Great North Museum: Hancock to hear tales from the career of one of the north East's premier naturalists

Join us at Great North Museum: Hancock for an evening of conversation and reminiscences with Dr Angus Lunn MBE, one of the North East's most prominent biogeographers and conservationists.

We will talk about Angus' life and career - from growing up in the North East, to becoming a researcher, educator, influencer and politician. Head of Adult Education at Newcastle University, author of the definitive guide to the natural history of the region in the New Naturalist volume on 'Northumberland', and awarded the MBE in 2003 for services to education and to peatland conservation - Angus has plenty of tales to tell. We'll hear about the teacher that sparked his interest in biogeography, and the trip to Southern France to research his university dissertation that opened his eyes to vegetation mapping. We'll also hear about Angus' work with the Council for National Parks and with the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, and his lifelong pursuit to preserve the Border Mires. At some point, we hope, Angus will explain how it's possible to preserve books under chicken excrement.
