About this Event

The BSBI New Year Plant Hunt runs for four days each year and aims to track how our wild and naturalised plants are reacting to changing weather conditions.

Join NHSN Senior Naturalist, James Common, for a morning of urban wildflowers as together, we see how many species we can find in bloom on the streets around St. Peter's Basin. Wild species, garden escapes, urban invaders, we'll look for them all.

Please wear decent walking boots. Do feel free to bring a hand lens or handy field guide. Together, we'll explore urban areas of St. Peter's before moving east towards Walker Riverside Park. Should the cafe be open, we will stop for a warm drink upon our return.

If you take any photos while attending the event, please do share them with NHSN by emailing james.common@newcastle.ac.uk.

As a botanist, he is a joint BSBI Vice-County Recorder for North Northumberland and an iRecord verifier for South Northumberland. Away from plants, he is an enthusiastic recorder of insects, especially ladybirds.
