A bioblitz is a survey of a specific area to identify and record as many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other wildlife as possible. From wildflowers to mammals, moths and mushrooms, all wildlife counts. This summer, why not join NHSN naturalists, volunteers, and members of the community to record biodiversity in your local park or green space?
Bioblitzes provide valuable data for conservation, ecosystem management, and scientific research, while also raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity and nurturing public engagement with nature. Better still, they are great fun and a fantastic way to experience the wildlife living on your doorstep.
Bioblitzes are an important part of Gosforth’s Wild Web. By recording as much wildlife as we can in and around Newcastle, we can all live in an urban Tyneside richer in nature. Recording what is around us provides us with the knowledge to protect what is here and help nature in the future.
Take a look at the NHSN website to see when and where your next Gosforth’s Wild Web bioblitz will take place. These are family-friendly events, and all are welcome. Come along with your friends and family, or on your own to meet like-minded people and see what you can discover. There is no need to book, just come along, collect your pots and nets and see what you can find. Together we can identify your findings, record what you have found and have a fun day enjoying local nature. Activities, ID books and more information will be available on the day.
